A Tribute to Mothers

I am not a mom yet, but I am beyond blessed to have so many examples of great mothers in my life: my own mom, mother-in-law, grandmothers, sister-in-laws, aunts, cousins, friends, etc. How lucky am I that I have such strong, intelligent, and hard working women to look up to. I am so grateful for my beautiful mother, who is my role model and my greatest inspiration.
Here is a poem that my amazing mom wrote a little while back.
To all you mothers out there, YOU are amazing, and we love you more than you know.

Motherhood is…

Motherhood is felt with those first yearnings of the heart that seem to tell you that life is more than what revolves around you.

Motherhood is like a jumbled knot of emotions all wrapped up in a plain brown box with a shoestring ribbon.  There is really nothing glamorous about Motherhood, it is an unpretentious position held by earth’s angels.  Motherhood is most fulfilling when that plain brown box is opened, and what is inside is recognized for what it is. Joy, love, frustration, pride, exhaustion, happiness, elation, sadness, heartbreak, forgiveness;  all little stepping stones that make us stronger, grow our love, and bring us closer to God.

The world would have you think that Motherhood is last on the list of things to accomplish in life’s race for accolades and accomplishments.  Many believe that Motherhood is something you do in your spare time. A Mother knows that Motherhood is something you live, eat and breathe.

Motherhood is realizing that within us there is great potential to influence the world for good.

Motherhood is a catalyst that turns I can’t into I knew you could.

Motherhood is a daunting task when you realize that your children will ultimately become a reflection of who you are.

Motherhood embodies fulfillment, unselfishness and love.

Motherhood is a gift from God, so accept that gift with gratitude and cherish it daily.

Motherhood is what you make it.

Motherhood is taking a blank slate and writing on it the most beautiful story ever told.  It is drinking in deeply the challenges of life and as youth matures it is recognizing God’s hand in our everyday living.

Motherhood is creation, not just the physical creation, but also the creation of hope, of courage, of dreams, of confidence, trust, joy and ultimately of love.

Without Motherhood, kingdoms would fall, civilizations would be lost, and the flame of hope for mankind doused with the dread of a nonexistent future.

Motherhood is a noble calling, a sacred trust.  To treat it as such is to give honor to the One who makes Motherhood possible.

Motherhood is beautiful.

Whitburn Beach

Of course Daniel had to make a soccer field in the sand. Complete with little rock players in their positions.
When you first think of England, beaches probably don't come to mind. At least it didn't for me! I am still amazed that we live only 15 minutes away from this beautiful place. Where we can smell the salty North Sea, and the all too tempting aroma of authentic fish n chips cooking from the nearby shops. I can't wait to see this place in the summer. I hear it is packed with families and surfers enjoying the sun, surf, and food.  All this beautiful warm weather we have been having is making me crave summer!

Keepin it Real

Just a little video of our Monday, continuing on from our last post.
It was the most perfect late afternoon for a drive to the beach.
And I have been itching to make a video for a while, so I had to take advantage of the opportunity :)

Penshaw Hill

Monday was one of those days when we just hopped in the car and drove until we saw something cool. We saw this monument on top of a hill and decided to drive to it. I'm so glad we did.

Iphoneography

Poor sleepy graduate student. And wearing gloves because our flat is always freezing cold.
The best surprise on Valentine's Day from my mom! It's an English Lavender plant and it smells so good!
Got this card in the mail from my 9 year old brother Tommy. The message inside said, "I wish you guys could come home right now." Made me cry!
I was looking at the home goods clearance section in TK Maxx a few weeks ago, and I hear Daniel yell my name from across the store. I come around the corner and he is holding this bottle with wide eyes and a huge smile. I'm sure we were a sight for our fellow shoppers. We may have been a little excited. Aaaand we left right away to go make some waffles. There isn't good maple syrup anywhere in England, so this was like the find of the century. TK Maxx has become my miracle store...the day before Thanksgiving this year I found two cans of Libby's pumpkin puree' and nearly cried happy tears right there. I love you, TK Maxx!! PS I just realized how much of that we have already eaten! Yikes! We have a problem..
Woke up to this man right outside my kitchen window. He looked a lot closer in person. I wonder what he thought of my penguin pajamas. And pretty sure he could hear Daniel and I giggling about the whole situation.
The prettiest door in Durham
Tins of hot dogs. Ew.
Best care package from my mother-in-law. Feels like Christmas with all of our favorite American treats!
A little late afternoon football with our matching CTR cleats.
